Healthy Weight Loss Plans: 3 Essential Ingredients

There are probably as many different weight loss plans as there are people trying to lose weight. There are thousands of different pills, exercise programs, low carb plans, low fat plans, low calorie plans, protein shake plans, certain type of food plans, and the list goes on and on. But many of these are not healthy and few of them lead to effective and lasting weight loss.

A healthy weight loss plan includes these 3 essential ingredients:

1) It must be well balanced. By this I mean that the plan allows and encourages you to eat a wide variety of foods from all of the major food groups. This is important so that your body gets all the things that it needs to function well. Your body needs protein, fiber, calcium, iron and a wide range of vitamins and minerals to function effectively. Also, it is hard to stick with a plan that strictly limits your food choices.

2) It should encourage slow and consistent weight loss. Those fad diets that try to get you to lose 10 pounds in a week or less are not healthy. The weight loss comes from depriving your body of what it needs and the loss almost never lasts. A healthy weight loss plan helps you to slowly and consistently lose weight until you reach a healthy weight goal that you are comfortable with. Then it helps you to maintain that weight. A healthy weight loss plan is one that you can be comfortable with for months, years, and even the rest of your life!

3) It includes a plan for increased activity. No, you don't have to spend hours in the gym every day to lose weight. But any plan that completely ignores any type of exercise will be hard to maintain. Even walking can do wonders for weight loss and also for better health. Moderate exercise can help reduce and avoid the potential for many health problems, and it burns calories which greatly enhances you weight loss efforts.

Please help me lose weight: ?
I gained a ton of weight due to major depression and the dreaded freshman 15! Could anyone give me a good way to kick start a healthy weight loss plan and then a constant regimen I can follow. I'd like to lose a good about of weight at first and then keep the loss steady there after. I am on a dance team and practice for 2hrs twice a wk. I'm also fairly muscular but still larger than I want to/ am accustomed to being. I am 5'4 about 165 lbs, I used to weigh 125 and was SKINNY (because of my musculature) so I think that between 130 and 140 would be a good size for my body type. I do need to lose weight quickly for an audition as well, if I can get down to 150 ASAP and then lose the rest the right way...

I'm sick and have a low body temp - 95.5 - can someone help me out?
I think it wold be helpful to post some background info. I used to have an eating disorder - normally I would go very very low with calories but then sometimes I would binge. I started recovery (therapy) in october but never changed my eating habits. I started REAL recovery by going to a dietitian, started than 2 weeks ago. I have been having 1,200 cals per day on the plan and I am on this as a healthy weight-loss plan. Surprisingly to both me and my dietitian, my metabolism has not slowed down, at least as far as we can tell from my results (lost 7.5lbs on a higher calorie diet than I would normally be having.) I have always had a lower body temp., usually not too low, 97 or 96.something at the lowest. Today I started getting sick: soar throat, all that fun stuff. I felt like I had a fever today but I couldn't chewck until I got home. Usually I am freezing all the time. I exercise every day, ballet class every day. Today I was on the elliptical for 20 min and had a lyrical class and a short ballet class. I got home and checked my temp. and it was 95.5 which is 3.1 degree below normal (orally) So even though my normal body temp. is low, this is much lower than even my normal. If anyone can shed some light on this I would be forever grateful. I heard something about hypothyroidism and I was swondering if that could be it since it's always been hard for me to lose weight (but I am not sure because it might have just been my screwey habits because now i am losing weight on 1,200 cals a day.) Any other ideas? I don't know what I am sick with, but I suppose just a cold. I heard strep was going around, but so far it's not as bad as strep usually feels so I'm leaning more towards a cold/other virus. Thanks! Noa. Other info I forgot about: -I don't eat much red meat/iron -I seemt o have low blod pressure...and oin my period I tend to get dizzy and white and have to sit down at ballet or else I'll pass out -I run out of breath climbing a small staircase (like the ones at school)...and I can feel my heart skipping and beating when I go up the stairs...and my leg muscle get tired from going up the few steps - but I am a very very fit person -during ballet, I can';t breath right. I dunno if i just don't know how to breath or if I forget or if its really something physical; for example if I am doing a full dance, I completely run out of breath before the end, and it's horrible. I have been tested for asthma a few years ago, but never exercise-induced asthma. I don't know if this could be related or not. OH yes, I also ate dinner before measuring, about 15-30min before. It was a warm dinner at that.
