Many people do not understand what to eat to lose weight. They think that in order to lose weight they must take extreme measures to do so. Sadly, the only thing extreme measures do in most cases is cause the person to fail. The good news is that there are simple changes you can make in your diet that will lead to weight loss in a much healthier way. A person who loses weight by eating healthy instead of taking extreme measures will most likely keep that weight off longer than a person who loses weight through extremes.
We all know that what we put in our mouths directly affects our weight, and therefore our health. If we want to lose weight the healthy way, we have to learn to eat a sensible diet with a balance of food groups such as fat, protein and carbs.
For the same reason, you must eat a balanced diet that will fill your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs. It is unwise to cut out complete food groups from our diets. This type of dieting usually does not lead to prolonged weight loss and can actually hurt our health rather than help our bodies become healthier.
With the South Beach and Atkins trends in the past several years, many potential dieters are under the assumption that in order to lose weight, they must cut out all carbohydrates. In reality, it is the type of carbohydrate you eat that makes a difference. While simple carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour can spike the body's blood sugar levels and leave the dieter feeling lethargic, complex carbohydrates give our bodies its energy. Consuming whole grains is an excellent way to consume carbohydrates that benefit our bodies.
The same rules apply to fats. The truth about fat is that our bodies actually need it in order to survive. The key is eating good fats such as nuts, olive oil and flax seed instead of animal fats.
By doing simple things such as reading food labels before dec iding what to eat to lose weight can make a huge difference in the amount of calories a person eats in a day. Many foods have hidden calories in them that you may not even realize your are consuming them if you do not read the labels.
What to eat to lose weight is a question many of us have. There are foods that are healthier for us than others, and if eaten in moderation, can help us lose weight.

Why Is Motivation So Hard To Keep?
I'm 20, male, and all I ever wanted out of life is love, I want a girlfriend more then anything else in the entire world. So why can I STILL not keep my motivation to lose weight? I know that if I can just lose the weight, I can gain confidence, and make positive changes in my life, but for the life of me, I just can't keep the motivation!

Weight loss and dieting tips?
I'm 19, 5'6" and about 180 pounds. I NEED to lose weight, it's serious for me. I just checked my BMI and it says I'm overweight. I absolutely hate my body and I need to get healthy. Not just for looks, but for confidence too. I'm constantly wearing hoodies and sweatpants because I feel too fat to wear jeans or nice clothes. I have so much clothes but I can't wear any of it. My boyfriend and I are going on vacation in June, and I want to look amazing. I want to be able to step outside and not feel extremely self-conscious anymore.
Problem is, I'm away at school 5 days a week (I go home a lot of weekends) and I rarely have time to exercise. For the past week or so I've been majorly cutting down on calories. I'm always snacking when I'm doing homework or studying, and when I need to eat on the go I just grab takeout at the dining hall. I absolutely hate exercising because I'm slightly asthmatic. But I seriously need to kick my own ass because I need to lose a ton of weight. I live in a dorm with no kitchen or stove, just a microwave and a fridge, so I can't cook unless I'm at home.
Does anyone have any tips/ideas they can give me?

Fatty liver - slightly elevated GGT & ALT?
Hi there,
Before Christmas I went to my doctor complaining of fatigue. He did a full blood count and most came back normal except that I had very low vitamin D (33.3mol/L) and high Vitamin B12 (856ng/L). So he's prescribed me 20,000IU cholecalciferol capsules to take (twice a week for 6 weeks).
Liver function tests showed up the following:
High GGT - 89 iu/L (normal range 2-50);
High ALT - 66iu/L (normal range 0-40);
Normal AST - 37iu/L
Normal ALP - 36iu/L
Normal Albumin - 41/L
Normal Bilirubin - 12umol/L
On the basis of these results he sent me for an ultrasound scan of the liver, which showed up some fatty deposits. Due to this, he is referring me to a liver specialist.
I am only 29 years old and I overweight (BMI 30) but am losing weight (down from 250lb to 210lb in 12 months) by eating less unhealthy food and cutting portion sizes.
I also have a hiatus hernia, for which I have been taking 20mg omeprazole daily for almost 3 years (which I am unhappy about, as I didn't think PPI's were meant to be taken long term). Since the liver test results, I have stopped taking this since I read it can cause elevated liver enzymes, I am taking 75mg Zantac daily instead.
I am changing my diet. I've also started taking 360mg Milk Thistle, 500mg Choline, 1000mg Taurine supplements daily, in addition to normal multivitamins and omega 3 fish oil.
My questions are -
1. How severe do you think the damage is, based on the above LFT figures?
2. Do you think the long term omeprazole use could have caused the elevated liver enzymes?
3. Do you think the low vitamin D & high B12 are related to liver function?

How do you "Tone" when working out?
I am desperately trying to lose weight, because I want to feel beautiful when I graduate next year... So I got a few questions to ask, 1. How much weight could I lose from lets say now to the end of june next year (I know that is a long time), 2. If I don't workout for a couple of days this week, how badly will it kill my weight loss?( I am sick with the flu, so I haven't really been doing much), and 3. How can I tone my body once I do get to the weight I want? Please any information will help!!
