It's imperative that you help your teen understand what easy weight loss for teens is really about. Just as with many subjects such as sex and drugs, if they don't hear it from you, they may follow misinformation from their peers or the media.

Drastically lowering calories will achieve quicker weight loss, but the trade-off is that metabolism is lowered, thus making it more difficult to lose weight in the future.

Calorie calculators can be found free of charge on the internet. From there, set up a plan that will create a calorie deficit of 500 to 1000 calories per day to achieve either a one pound or two pound per week weight loss goal. It's imperative that your teen achieves this deficit through diet and exercise.





For calorie information, read food labels. Your teenager needs to read these labels and learn how to properly portion food. We live in a super-sized country. Seeing what a real portion looks like can be surprising at first. Easy weight loss for teens, however, cannot be achieved unless they understand portions and learn approximate caloric values of different foods.





Consult the food guide pyramid available at www.eatright.org for information on what types of foods your teenager should be eating. The misguided notion that carbohydrates are bad has created a lot of confusion. As long as the majority of carbohydrate consumption is whole grains, fruits and vegetables as opposed to simple carbohydrates like sweets and white breads and pastas, carb's are okay and should be a regular part of your teenager's diet. Choose lean meats over high fat meats and try to incorporate fish into your easy weight loss for teens plan. Dairy is also an important food group. Just remember to choose low-fat or fat free dairy products.





Above all, in learning about easy weight loss for teens don't forget to be a positive and encouraging part of your teen's weight loss. Try not to pressure them. Ok, So I am 13 years old and I think I weigh 190lbs. I want to lose weight SO Badly, BUT, I do not want to exercise (unless I have to), and another thing is I walk a lot in school and I do not want to gain muscle, plus I have to do this in about 5 months for the school FORMAL, and I wanna lose around 60-minimum and 90-maximum in between there would be fine. -THANKS ! ! ! ! !

My 12 year old cousin is really overweight. Please, to help me help him, how can we/he help him?
My cousin is 12 years of age and he is really overweight. He is 5'5" and weighs 214 or so pounds. He likes this girl at school named Jasmine (not that you really need to know that), and really feels bad about being SO overweight. His mom is in the hospital and his father is being really... Mean. He needs someone to help him, but there really isn't anyone there to help him. I am really close to him, I'm like his brother, and I REALLY want to help him. He tried in August of '08 to lose weight, but lost none. He exercises on every other day in P.E. class, like so, Mon, Wed, Friday, *None on weekend* Tuesday, Thursday, then repeat. I hear him crying at night, because he lives with his aunt (my mom) and I. He has problems with his weight issue and I really, really, REALLY want to help him. We were looking over the book "Toning for Teens" but he needs more than just "Toning". We really would like a book like this, and maybe even have him have a weight-loss buddy who is about his age/weight, sort of like what they do at... well I forgot the website, but they do this, but do not allow people under the age of either 13, or 18, to join. What he needs is a "Serious Weight Loss for Teens" book, maybe even with a diet included, along with a workout guide or something. Thank you ALL for help, and god bless. P.S. He also says "Can you help me with Jasmine?" (the girl he likes) "I love and have loved her for forevers, and she laughs when I talk. And I don't even thinks it's 'cuz I'm stupid."
